The 10-year Animal Health & Welfare Strategy for Great Britain came to an end in 2014 and the Welsh Government has announced a new 10-year Framework, along with a newly appointed panel of six experts, to succeed it.

The RSPCA is keen to engage with the panel and in the development of any underpinning strategies for the various sectors and species.

Unlike the previous strategy, which predominantly covered farmed livestock issues, the new framework will also have the remit of including all companion animals, working animals, kept animals involved in sport and aquaculture. The RSPCA also believes that is fundamentally important that the framework considers welfare matters as thoroughly as those surrounding animal health.

At the 2014 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show we asked people “whose responsibility is animal welfare?”. The results below demonstrate the wealth of stakeholders involved in the delivery of animal welfare, and the range of opinions which exist concerning which agencies carry different responsibilities.
